About this Position

The Cisco Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of network support activities, as well as projects within the assigned concentration of expertise. The Cisco Senior Network Engineer will provide technical and operational support to your peers within the Network Team, as well as the Information Technology group as a whole. Work will entail network evaluation, software/code upgrades, network implementations, ongoing enhancements, handling project tasks for network expansion, monitoring, and support. The Cisco Senior Network Engineer will lead network design efforts and projects within our team. This position will report to the Network Engineering Manager and will have no direct reports.

The estimated salary range for this role is: $175K - $190K

This is a hybrid position that works onsite at our Duluth office and has some work from home days each week.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Job Functions:

  • Ensure a Highly Available Network

Network administration responsibilities will be required to ensure a highly available network. Constant (24/7) monitoring and alerting from the necessary tools and technology will be utilize to achieve the maximum uptime. Timeliness in response will be required to achieve the most effective and efficient repair time.

  • Maintain Security

In accordance with company and departmental security directives, deploy, maintain, and enhance the security of the network systems through administrative, preventive, detective, and reactive controls, such as change and configuration management, and code upgrades to remediate vulnerabilities. Participate in BCP and/or Audit program initiatives as needed.

  • Provide Operational Support

Effectively utilize the appropriate tools and technology to ensure ongoing operation of the network. Troubleshoot, monitor circuits and equipment, and work with third-parties to ensure quick resolutions to any network problems. Collaboration with other Technology Teams will be required from time-to-time to assist in network performance related situations.

  • Provide Technical Leadership

Prepares proposals and technical project plans. Develop solutions to customer business requirements, technical problems and/or engineering of network systems. Collaborates with technology groups and other forums to develop technical solutions and enhancements. Assists in developing the technical skills of less-experienced peers. Share ideas, projects, and best practices to help create a collaborative, team-oriented work environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as third level escalation support for operational issues.
  • Provide after business hours support as part of an on call rotation.
  • When needed, work after hours to perform software/code upgrades and network implementations.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies.
  • Display good time management and strong documentation skills.
  • Verify/Perform routine backups of all network related technologies.
  • Develop configurations for a wide range of networking technologies to meet requirements of architectural designs.
  • Perform troubleshooting or make changes to complex network systems to address operational issues.
  • Help develop/maintain Configuration Standards and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Demonstrate advanced logical problem-solving skills.
  • Make other teams and upper management aware of potential network risks or issues immediately and work to resolve these challenges in a timely manner.
  • Develop tools for network automation and administration.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 5+ years' experience as a senior network engineer overseeing a large-scale enterprise network.
  • Experience with implementing, configuring, and troubleshooting of both physical and virtual networks.
  • Experience with disaster recovery and configuring highly available networks.
  • Experience as a technical project resource.
  • Experience with Visio or other technical drawing solution.
  • Network and Cloud certifications are a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking technologies and concepts: SD-WAN, Cisco ACI, VXLAN/EVPN, SSL/IPSec VPN, Load balancer (F5).
  • Expert in both Internal and External routing protocols.
  • Expert in deploying and troubleshooting complex routing strategies.
  • Experience with software defined network design and an understanding of both underlay and overlay networks.
  • Knowledge in Cloud networking services: AWS, Azure, GCP.
  • Knowledge of application-level concepts is preferred: APIs, Scripting/Development, Python.
  • Ability to work independently and to define priorities which meet critical deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and network problem solving skills.
  • Use of monitoring and management tools like Solarwinds and Extrahop.
  • Good understanding of network engineering security principles, firewall rules, Cryptography PKI/Certificate Management, Attack vectors, Risk vs Vulnerabilities/Mitigation, and DDoS.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including end-user support experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as demonstrated by technical synopses, white papers, and presentations.
  • Must thrive in a collaborative work environment with a passion for sharing knowledge and ideas with others.
